She lives in my heart,
the ruby light of her
nourishing me,
running through my blood,
filling me with her love,
loving me because I breathe.
I used to look outward,
taught to please
the high-throned God
of my catechismic teaching,
feeling sinful
in my innocence.
Now I sit in her grace,
no longer looking outside,
no more trying to please
the angry gods of my past.
Now I am loved
from the inside.
